While the Good Neighbor Center volunteer tutors assist students in academic and personal development…tutoring also reinforces your own skills, techniques, and provides a higher purpose in being a force of change in your very own community. You’ll gain and strengthen your communication and leadership skills as well as learn how to adapt your skills to meet various students’ needs.

GNC Counts on You
You are one of our strongest advocates for our young people who face many challenges like single parent households, violence in schools, growing up too fast, education inequity, etc. We ask that you please choose to make that crucial difference in the lives of so many youth and your community by volunteering with the Good Neighbor Center.

The Details
GNC needs people just like you to work with our learners on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30pm. We also need tutors who are willing to work with college students on site outside of regular tutoring times. You’ll start your evening by sharing a community meal and then dive in and work at whatever level you are most comfortable with things like practice skills, finishing homework, and so much more.

Requirements
We need you. GNC has always done more with less; however, with the pandemic life became more complicated. We’re seeing our participating numbers consistently increase which means more and more children are in need of our valuable tutoring and the encouragement of a mentor who shows they care, will assure them that they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter.

Are you at least 16 years old? Do you like to share knowledge? Are you respectful and have an eagerness to invest in others? Do you have the ability to combine patience and communicate concepts in different ways until you see a child have a lightbulb moment?
